    Thanks for the tip. Nice little story, somewhat in the vein of “Narnia”.

    And it’s about time somebody used a (more or less!) modern weapon to dispose of a pesky dragon!

      At the time this was written (1890s), Lee-Metford was the current army rifle.

      I find it amusing that Edith Nesbit, known as the “Mother of British Socialism”, wrote a more “conservative” fairy tale than most today. Then again, Jack London, a socialist himself, tended to write go-getter, capitalist characters.
