Large Bore AR15

Guns4Pennies.com is about to auction off this rifle.

The point of interest is mainly the caliber, 458SOCOM. Several types from 70gr frangibles all the way up to 600gr subsonics are. SBR makes several loads, as does Load-X. 350gr ball load is shown below.

The rifle is nicely made, as seems typical for RRA.

The rifle is the same size and weight as .223 but launches a much bigger payload. Standard “30rd” magazine fits ten shots of .458SOCOM.

Approximate ballistic effect on target is approaching that of a 12ga sabot slug.

Rock River, from everything I’ve ever seen by them, does make extremely good equipment. And that 458 looks like a severe hunting round!

That’s a serious looking bullet. How does this compare with .50 BMG?

      It’s not even close.
      Subsonic .458 SOCOM is:
      600 gr 1,000 ft/s 1,336 ft·lbf
      Lightweight .50 BMG is:
      647 gr Speer 3,044 ft/s 13,144 ft·lbf

Basically an order of magnitude difference.

I am interested in the safety/select-fire lever that this rifle displays. The knurling for the thumb looks aggressive.
