I have owned three. Two DWM made in WW1 and a stainless Stoger. Dirt sensitive, fragile, finicky about ammunition and bullet type. They are not even a good 20th century weapon, and only middlin’ reliable by the standards of the late 19th century when it was designed. Like most things German they are grossly over engineered . A hand(even the modern “Stoger”) built weapon with parts fitted so tightly that even powder fowling will cause a stoppage. The Germans dropped in favor of the P 38 in 1939 , and stopped issuing them about five min. after invading Russia. I like the TT33 a whole lot more. It’s a better weapon and may be, with the 1911, the best combat side arm of the war.

You may be interested in some “torture testing” done by the fellows at the YouTube! channel InRange TV. The Luger does remarkably well when exposed (!) to mud. There’s a reason that the German army used it for so long.

You can make anything you want too look good when you have the luxury of a camera and 400 takes. I’ll take my own experience and the findings of the German Army over you tube. “In Range” are the guys who claim that AR-15’s are “better” than AK’s and that the Johnson rifle worked in combat. Right? But go ahead and drop 2000-10000 USD on a P-08 if you want. You will never get it to work like the one on you tube.

Perhaps. They are pretty clear that their tests involve one example gun under those conditions. Personally, I was astounded that the AR-15 did as well as it did… and almost cried when they did a mud test to an M-1.
