Gaaaah!!! A Remington Model 81!!! (or 8) can’t see if it has the pistol grip stock. Had one in .35 Remington. I was intrigued by it’s history and coolness. Took a bit of wrangling and horse trading to afford the one I had, as it was almost $900. Took it to the range, Put 1 box of ammo through it..(It worked flawlessly)….and promptly sold it. This may be possibly the SINGLE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE FIREARM I have EVER fired!!! And that’s compared to a .458 Win. mag Bolt action, and an H&R 12 GA Topper with high brass Slugs!!!

Yes you can tell, the (stock) 81 had a thick forearm too. This one is an 8.

  3. Gewehr98 says:

Yup. That’s a Model 8. Skinny schnabel forend, looks like no pistol grip in the stock, either. I’d wager it’s a .25 Remington based on the bullet size – more fun finding reloadable brass than the .30 Remington variants, which are also hen’s teeth compared to the .35 Remington chambering. I’m jealous, my two Remington/Browning autoshuckers don’t have any original stripper clips!

I’ll be damned. Zoom in on the barrel extension and it says, “.35 Rem”. Cool beans, although that means it’ll thump the shooter harder than the smaller bore Remington Model 8 rifles do.

Ammo is .25 but the gun is a .35 — and the barrel extension stamp is the only visible difference. We just didn’t have .35Rem stripper clips on hand.

Very nice. This is the first pic of a Model 8 that looks in as good (actually better) condition than mine. Mine’s a .30 rem. I’ve got 1 bullet for it.

Then you haven’t seen my restored early-production Remington Model 8 (No external magazine guide springs) in .32 Remington.

It’s the one pictured on the Wikipedia entry for “Remington Model 8”. 🙂

Currently working on a Remington Model 81 restoration, in .300 Savage, with Lyman Alaskan scope and offset Stith mounts…

  7. Scott says:

Up until recently, I had a Model 8 as well. It was in .30 Remington inherited from my Grandfather. Worked flawlessly and reloaded exactly the same as a 30-30. I found it a nice home with someone who collected them.

Great rifle for reminding anti-gun people that semi-automatic rifles were used for hunting well before they were adopted by the military.

    I like short pants. 🙂

Oh-Em-Gee is that gun teh sexy, or what?

I have a bad case of the wantsies.

(You know who designed that rifle, right? 😉 )

  10. Beaumont says:

Anybody have stripper clips for a .30?
