The next best thing to a firearm.

When traveling in Europe, I found that batons were too heavy and often regulated, while folding knives were entirely kosher in most jurisdictions.

Neat. When do they actually go on sale?

I picked up one of the Keltec folding Bayonet a few years ago off gun broker, and then didn’t see them ever again. Maybe they are just made sporadically?

I’ve always carried a knife. Never runs out of ammo, doesn’t weigh much, and is very concealable. Easy to learn to use with no ammo or range cost.

When my cousin was hired by the State Dept. He was not allowed to go armed. Set him up with several Spyderco knives and trainers. Basic moves to use and a practice regime.

    Cheers,

I watch a lot of youtube knife review and aficianado videos. A couple channels are by guys in Germany and Belgium.

off the cuff recollection, in Germany, for instance, you can have a locking knife but it can’t be openable with one hand. You can have, say, a Spyderco with the hole, but it has to be a slipjoint. That sort of thing. Spyderco even has a range of knives like that called the UKpenknife series that are more or less Delica’s and such that don’t lock.

A lot of countries are similar, but with variations for fixed blades, blade length, etc. Some make NYC look rational, it’s worth researching prior to travel.

I suspect this sort of thing would be illegal in Massachusetts — almost everything is.

For an interesting and different (and US-invented) take on knives, see http://www.hideawayknife.com/main.php

One of these days, I’m going to scrape up enough to get one of these

Reading the onerous restrictions people everywhere else have to endure just to legally carry a basic tool like that, I’m really glad I made the decision to move to New Hampshire, where the legislature was wise enough to repeal all restrictions on knife carry and ownership. Automatic, gravity, balisong, fixed blade–however long the blade, and however it’s deployed, you can legally carry it in New Hampshire. Stabbing someone outside of legitimate self-defense is still illegal, of course.

Yes, NH is a nice spot of fresh air when compared to backward places like MA and NY. Constitutional Carry next ?

    Also forbidden in France…
