JMHO, but .45 ACP makes a damn poor carbine cartridge. I have such a carbine, the trusty old Marlin Camp 45, and the hold-over required to get on paper at 100 yards is well in the feet, and for 120 yds (the farthest I have shot it), it runs to 7 feet with standard 230-gr Ball. Not many sighting systems will handle that artillery-type hold-over, The 9mm is about half that hold-over at similar ranges, and the .40 S&W a bit more than the 9mm.

The best pistol-caliber semi-auto carbine I ever fired was the Ruger Deerfield, which would be perfect except for it’s paltry magazine capacity. It chambers .44 Magnum.
