Good news on the computer front

Today, a friend installed the new video card (gifted by another friend) and the replacement power supply. He discovered that the old card controller was accidentally nudged into overclocking while we tried to do the opposite the last time. It’s been half a day since, and not only have I not had any crashes, certain issues like fonts not smoothing correctly in Firefox have gone away. So I think this PC is in the clear.

    Yeah.
Overclocking. I think it’s a bad idea to do it, on principle, unless you are noticing performance issues. It’s pushing equipment beyond what it was designed for.

But hey – you’ll know next time to first check for overclocking, and only consider hardware faults later. I mean it’s the easiest check to make.

Overclocking only happened the last few days by accident, so it wasn’t the root cause.

        Ah ..

I’ve been sleeping really badly the past couple of days. Something to do with the weather, possibly.

So it could’ve been the supply or the GPU…

Plus, the voltage being supplied by the old power supply was somewhat unstable/insufficient (4.8 volts instead of 5 volts, 1.2v instead of 1.3v, etc), while the new one is dead on.
