On this day in 1989, I flew to New York from Rome (which was a waypoint on the way from the USSR). Today, I flew back Rome to celebrate the anniversary with my parents who discovered America for me. My father is an American who was born in another country by mistake. He remedied that error as quickly as he could, bringing my mother and I along.

Thank your parents for all of us. We are all made better by your families decision to come here.
+1 on DB… Y’all ARE a credit to America.
America is more than the sum of its parts, but I have to say, it would be much less without you and your family here.
Thank you for choosing to be part of this great nation.
Families like yours are what America is all about!
And the world is a better place for your father’s actions.
And as well (or more so), Oleg’s actions.
Agreed.
Welcome home.
Congratulations, I just celebrated 14 years myself.
Can we keep you?
Welcome + 25. Many more happy anniversaries.
Again, Welcome home. Keep doing what you do. Gary
Funny how that works. There are Americans all over the world who can’t or just haven’t gotten here yet. I had an office mate in grad school from the PRC who was American. He was required to return to China, but eventually managed to get back and live here. He was particularly enthused with the gun shows. Now if we could just convince the folks who were born here but aren’t Americans and would be happier someplace like, say North Korea, to go back “home”.
And we are richer for it, Mr Volk. 😀
Thank you for coming here and staying with this country through everything, good and bad. I and many others love your work! Best of luck and health to you and your loved ones!
All of my friends born under another flag are some of the best Americans I know.
I in turn tell them that America is and always should be a state of mind.
And although 25 years late, welcome home.
Thanks for posting this. It is a very important day and one to celebrate. Congrats on both escaping, and on your success!
Welcome Mr. Volk. We are glad to count you among us here in the land of the free and the home of the brave!
“An American who was born in another country by mistake”. Love it! What a concept 🙂
God bless you all; we are honored to have you.
Thanks for coming! I wish your like-minded cousins would come too, and the ~Secret Europeens~ would just leave!
Given the dramatic turn away from Freedom in the last 25 years, do you still think you made the right choice?
Congratulations! We need more like your family.
