This is a 1954 Chinese type 53 (a clone of the Soviet M44 Mosin carbine). Somebody chopped the forend short, replaced the buttstock with an AKMS folding stock and a pistol grip of unknown provenance.
The end result is a rifle that’s nearly useless for bayonet fighting for lack of a grip space for the support hand, and rather unpleasant to fire thanks to the underfolding stock. That stock, already uncomfortable on the lower-powered, self-loading AKMS, was originally meant for an open bolt 9mm submachine gun (MP38/40) with almost no felt recoil. Every round fired from this bolt action is outright painful.
Nope. I like my shoulder too much.
My 8mm Mauser kicks like a mule, so it lives in the safe..a lot.

Check into a Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad. I had one put on my .30-06 Model 700, did wonders in taming the recoil.
http://www.hivizsights.com/product/slip-on-recoil-pad/ solves it for me.
Can we get pictures of just the rifle?
I might, just might want to make a clone!
I will try — but I think this one is for sale by the current owner.

I would have to ask him in person about the details.
She wouldn’t be smiling if she shot it.
I’m strangely intrigued…no, I will NOT do that to my Type 53 or Tula Model 1944 but it’s like something you’d see if a ” Mad Max : Fury Road” type post Apocalyptic scenario played out (again) in Eastern Europe or the Balkans
Rifle (was) fine.
The last time I saw a gun that useless was in the conveyance of a purveyor of recreational herbs and potions (about 1977). Right there on top of 5 or 6 kilos was a bolt action .410 with the bbl cut to about 10.” I told him the only thing it was good for was a NFA34 bust with a sentence enhancement on the concomitant dope beef. No idea whether he heeded my advice, but I wouldn’t ride in his car.
[lack of a grip space for the support hand]
True. Also the short forend leaves too much barrel unsupported. It would be real easy to stick the bayonet through something and bend the barrel.
I doubt that the thin wood stock, whatever its length, would prevent such an occurrence.
Nothing wrong with it that an aftermarket stock can’t fix. 😉
Lovely girl with lovely smile! I am not qualified to comment on the gun.
It’s a product of, “They tell us we can’t have folding stock and bayonet lugs? Well I’m gonna have both, damnit!”
Attitudes were very different in that period between 1994 and 2004.
“Useless” is an over-used term. If you can hit targets with it, then it is far from useless. It still launches a 150 grain bullet at around Mach 2.5. It may be far from the ideal tool, it may be a highly compromised tool, but it is still a tool.
