A friend and I just discovered that, once in a while, a full-screen pop-up ad shows up on my WordPress blog page. Is anyone else seeing that? If so, for how long?
Any idea what could have cause this? I know that I’ve not signed up for any ad campaigns. My WordPress install is hosted on a paid server.
According to my history I’ve been seeing it since May 29th. I had assumed it was on my end.
A bit of research pointed me towards the use of sitemeter as a possible cause.
Yes, 38 seconds before returning to the blog.
I use IE and have never had a pop-up on your blog.
I have not seen pop-ups. I am using Chrome, if that helps
Yes. Every now and then yours, and several other WordPress websites have an… intermediary screen?… not exactly a pop-up, but a short “redirection” to a page, with a “you will be redirected to your site momentarily” or something like that message, with an advert of some sort. Not particularly reproducible, but annoying. not 100% sure it only WordPress sites, but that the majority of them.
Linux and Firefox here, and have never seen a pop-up here!
Nope….nothing here… Chrome.
Never a pop-up, but I’m running Pale Moon with AdBlock and NoScript.
Not once. I’d suspect that there is some undiscovered malware/adware on computers that do get the ads.
I use IE, Chrome, Startpage, and Firefox – and I have NEVER seen a pop-up on your site ever.
Do you use Jetpack or Cloudflare? Someone told me about something similar recently…
I have not seen an ad, but I have seen the same problem mentioned on other WP blogs. According to this and this, it is likely a SiteMeter issue.
Seamonkey, no popups, but I’m running NoScript as well. On the other hand, I will sometimes have to reload to get the Captcha letters window, and I see an “Internal server error” message in the box.
I’ve noticed it on MY blog, using Firefox.
Your friend may have some malware on his machine.
I have never seen a pop-up here. Linux+firefox for me.
No problem here. I use Safari, on a Mac, with the standard popup blocking setting (which is only moderately effective).
Yes, similar to what Rolf described. At home I use noscript and never see it. But occasionally from my work computer with Firefox, I see the described redirect.
I’ve been seeing that sporadically across a number of blogs; I have seen it alleged that sitemeter is the cause.
Never.
But it’s possible the ISP is injecting ads into some people’s traffic.. there’s precedent for that kind of jerk behavior ..
