A good, thoughtful piece (some typos). What is the apparently metal box in the photo, under the AR-7 stock?

I’ve been eyeing that rifle for years. It would make a good standby for a vacation cabin, a boat, RV, etc.

As for the most likely small game animal; in these parts, the tree squirrel is far more numerous than the rabbit. I’ve gottn exactly one shot off at a ribbit, and it was at a full run and I missed, whereas I’ve killed and eaten several squirrels. OK I did kill one rabbit with a 22 when I was a young lad, but it was feral.

One of the few ‘backpack ready’ firearms that easily fit inside a rucksack. Interesting rifle.

As far as that Henry kit goes, I saw a Stanley drinking flask that could double as a container for such a kit. The entire top is hinged for easier cleaning (a tough task for standard flasks) – called the Ecycle. It appeared to fit a standard U.S. G.I. 30 round magazine pouch.

I have an AR7 that I picked up cheap at a garage sale a few years ago. The trigger is very heavy, the sites are horrible (and different from the one here, older model), and it’s generally inaccurate. I would be better off with a .22 pistol I think (I’m a better pistol shot than I am rifle). It is, however, very reliable and has never malfunctioned on me.
