Good point about the different manuals of arms.

I started with a small pocket pistol, went to a larger pocket pistol, and now carry a large frame auto OWB every day. The way I see it, your carry pistol is your home defense pistol, being that it’s always with you.

Try carrying a full sized pistol for at least one week. I submit that if you have a decently comfortable holster for it. You’ll find that it’s easy to do, and that a reduced capacity pistol with reduced performance and compromised handling is unnecessary.

I’ve never understood the perceived difference when wearing shorts either, by the way. Unless you use an ankle holster, the length of your pants is irrelevant to the mode of carry. So I carry a full-sized pistol when wearing long pants or when wearing shorts, on the same belt and the same holster. There’s absolutely no difference.

Then there are the carbines in the vehicle and the house. There’s your longer barrel, higher capacity.

Full size pistol are almost impossible to conceal under light clothing in summer.

Hmmm… That doesn’t match my experience at all.
I carry .45 auto in shorts & tee-shirt, or shorts & light cotton button-up shirt every day. Galco IWB holster and a good belt, and I’m good to go.
One caveat: New, *unfaded* solid black or white tee-shirts, or patterned button ups DO work MUCH better.

Well, people’s body size varies. If I was 6′ taller no doubt I could easily carry on my hip in a iwb holster.

You missed us revolver guys 🙂

J-frame .38 Special (Model 38, the original Bodyguard) for carry, Dan Wesson 15-2 with 6 inch barrel at home. 15 1/2 oz and 5 rounds vs 40 oz and 6 rounds means far less recoil and muzzle flip in the “full-size” revolver.

…so, why exactly carry a revolver which is less powerful, has less ammo capacity an is wider than a pistol?

I get the appeal, mechanically revolvers are very nice, but so are wheel-locks and no one carries them anymore. (not even the ones that had a magazine..)
