My barber Jerry

In his 70+ years, Jerry has never been a fan of his portraits. The first picture I took of him illustrated his attitude towards the process quite clearly.

A few minutes later, he was in a better mood for pictures. The results improved accordingly.

Since he stays off the Internet, I brought him 8×10 prints. He liked them enough that I brought 20×30 prints. Not bad for a guy who generally can’t stand his own portraits.

Including spouses or significant others in the photo shoot usually improves the results. People often relax better, and there’s always the option of asking the helpers to elicit a mood or a particular emotion from the model.

ARAQ47 from Slovakia

This is an AR10 receiver mated to a short stroke piston upper. It uses standard AK magazines. Not sure when it will become available in the US because of 1989 import restriction rules.

Neat new designs from Grand Power (Slovakia)

We will likely see all of these in the US in some form or another. A .22 Stribog, a long-barreled rimfire pistol, and a tilt-barrel 9mm compatible with Glock magazines but more ergonomic.

The motive of your enemy is not relevant to the choice of remedy.

It doesn’t matter if robbery, rape, or murder is in the mind of the attacker — maybe it’s all of the above, plus cannibalism — what matters is the will and the ability to destroy the attacker. Forcible felonies are almost never one-and-done actions committed on the spur of the moment. Anybody you shoot has likely done this before and will, unless incapacitated, do this to others. Violence will be escalated, and the predatory conduct won’t cease until somebody stops them decisively.
