Shotgun for the wife
Our brilliant vice president argued that a double-barrel shotgun is the best home defense weapon for a woman. While 19th century technology is not the worst possible choice, much better options exist. Biden’s advice on its use — “go out on … Continue reading
Reluctant use of force
Nobody wants to get into a gun fight, even if victory is assured. De-escalation of conflict is taught and practiced almost religiously. The number of homicides outside of drug-related gang warfare is essentially statistical noise besides the massive number of … Continue reading

Saiga for a rainy day
Saiga 12 with Primary Arms red dot on a TWS rail receiver cover.
An excellent new web-connected gun store
My friend Dennis Badurina, of Dragon Leatherworks fame, has just updated his store to make on-line sales. The site updates itself every 15 minutes, and is as close to live-time as they can get in inventory levels and availability. They also have an … Continue reading

Neither predator nor prey.
The problem with many anti-gun people is their inability to envision themselves as something other than those two roles. In countries where positive illustrations are unavailable due to restrictive laws, it’s hard to show by example. In the US, it … Continue reading
Rifle manual of arms in a shotgun
Firebird Precision TAC12 (differs from the current TAC12A1 only in the take-down method) with 10-round magazines and EOTech sight.
Firebird Precision TAC12A1: new on AllOutdoor

Vepr 12: new at AllOudoor
Vepr 12 first impressions.
Good times
Just spent a day making photos and videos, chatting with friends and shooting Vepr 12 and FG42. Great overcast weather, talented and well-equipped WW2 reenactor model, and a good day for me in terms of accuracy. FG42 with iron sights shot … Continue reading
Red dots on AKs and shotguns
Having used Bulgarian, Polish and certain US polymer magazines, I am a convert. Steel is just too heavy for the same result. AK is a 3-4MOA rifle and yet nobody questions the utility of a red dot sight for improved … Continue reading
Shotguns for the AK users
For people who shoot AK pattern rifles, it makes sense to use similar .22 traning carbines. And it makes as much sense to use shotguns with similar manual of arms, either Saiga… ..or Vepr. Both come with 5-rd magazines, but … Continue reading

Updating old guns to accept optics
TWS and Ultimak rails for AK, Mini-14, M1A, M1 carbine, Garand, Saiga and others.
Dry fire practice with shotgun
Trying out a Primary Arms red dot attached to Saiga 12 through an Ultimak rail. Ear protection isn’t used until later, when live ammunition comes into use. Ten round magazine is by AGP.
An observation about .410 defensive shotguns
Yesterday, I had a chance to play with Mossberg 500HD, a .410 pump designed for defense. We test-fired a whole bunch of ammo types at the IDTS 3D target and more at an old cooking pan, some rotten logs and … Continue reading

Two signs of well-involved parents
Personal firearms (and training in their use), and braces. Both give kids a cause for smiling. Remington 870 Youth 20ga in pink camo. Around here, it actually fits pretty well with faded yellowish grass.
