Hearing protection for musical kids.
First time on the range, both did amazingly well out to 50 yards. Their mother, during her first range time, did even better — out to 100 yards with a .22 rimfire!

Differences of detail level
I just tried comparing a full-frame 43MP Sony A7R3 and 135/1.8 Sigma lens bought for $1200 to a 16MP micro 4/3 Panasonic GM5 with an adapted FED 50/2.8 lens (E26m) obtained at a used book store for $4. Sony wins … Continue reading

My favorite photo of Michael Meador
And this renews my inquiry: why don’t professional DSLR cameras have fully articulated LCD viewfinders like entry level camera?

A classic Russian-made camera support
RPD seems so worthless as a light machine gun due to heavy recoil, it might actually be more useful as an improvised camera support. How the guy who designed lightly recoiling DP27 in 7.62x54R managed to make a 7.62×39 weapon … Continue reading

Anybody near Nashville able to help me test autofocus of my camera?
My 5DSR is being inconsistent. I’d like to try adjusting it to individual lenses, but it seem that it doesn’t focus the same way twice, so there’s no baseline for adjustments. Perhaps I am doing something wrong? I can work … Continue reading

WW2 Uhertl scope, others like it
Does anyone in or near Nasvhille have such an item that I could photograph? I could use images of any optics older than about 1970.
Importing video from LG G5 to Premier
Does anyone know what setting I should use for editing G5 video in Premier CS5? I tried 1920×1080 29.97 frame rate, 48kHz audio, but playback looks distorted. Almost as if the encoding fails on any scenes with motion.

Green
The local photo printer utterly failed to preserve detail in the white of the flower above. Any suggestions for a good web based print shop that can do a good job on properly set up files?

3D (stereo) TV monitors?
I am trying to find a currently produced TV monitor that would support 3D content…but can’t find anything listed. Suggestions? Also, is there any currently made 3D camera, or Fuji Real 3D W3 is it?

Looks like the compact camera search is over.
The winner is Panasonic GM5 with 20/1.7 lens, carried in CCW Breakaways pants. The main challenge now is to find a reasonably priced used GM5 body that’s not bundled with a zoom lens. Any pointers?

Compact camera musings
Sony NEX7 with 20mm/2.8 pancake…fits all needs except macro. Same with 30/3.5 macro fits all needs except pocketability. It would even mount the FE 55/1.8 as a short tele. From standpoint of ergonomics, Olympus Pen F would bring articulated LCD … Continue reading

Portable generator recommendations needed

Compact camera considerations again…
This topic seems to come up regularly. With my 4/3 body now in deep infrared configuration, I have no small cameras on hand. My smallest body is Sony A7R, and it’s hefty once 55mm lens is attached. It also lacks … Continue reading

Once an object of desire, now a functional antique
An Olympus Pen F half-frame, a real classic. Once upon a time, nearly twenty years ago, I really wanted one of these but couldn’t justify the price. One of the major features, for me, was the default vertical framing. Getting … Continue reading
Manual focusing with Canon 5DS R camera?
I am looking at getting a 135/2 lens for use with the Canon, but it has a finder screen optimized for lenses no faster than 2.8. With the older 5Dmk2, I could get a higher contrast focusing screen for use … Continue reading

Seminar on photographic lighting
I am considering offering seminars on photographic technique. The two topics most often requested are people and product, specifically firearms. Could I see a show of hands — who would be interested in one-day seminars, conducted on weekends? Product photography, … Continue reading
