You can’t feed your arms to a predator…
…and hope that it spares your body. Even if the initial plan called only for taking your property, the encouragement given by abject compliance motivates thugs to take greater liberty with your health, life and dignity. And with the health, … Continue reading

Examining the ballistic performance of high-velocity hollow point ammunition.
Taurus Curve addendum
After Michelle’s article, I wanted to make my own decision regarding this design. Had a chance to shoot it at the range today. Felt recoil isn’t bad. It’s there but not painful and doesn’t interfere with retention of the gun. … Continue reading

Military surplus suitable for defense?
Hast Holster
Saw a very nice holster and speedloader pouch set. Upon inquiry, I found it to be yet another Michael Hast design. The pictures don’t really do it justice. The leather is worthy of the gun it encases, S&W M27.

Maturity isn’t just a function of age.
Sydney is a competitive shooter. I’d rather have her around than many chronologically adult people who haven’t a fraction of her maturity, education and ability. Of course, there are times when she acts like the 14 year old that she … Continue reading

Concealment holster for HK VP9
Avenger model from Nelson Holsters, quite comfortable.
Selecting a black powder revolver
I got the black powder bug last year. Wanted top play around with cap and ball, but the loaners available to me were not quite what I wanted. For one, I didn’t want to ruin someone else’s gun by accident if … Continue reading
A mix of classic and new
Last year, I was curious what happened to KD Holsters and discovered that the brand was no longer. But some of their designs live on through Nelson Holsters. James Ervin Nelson took the most popular designs from several old brands, … Continue reading

Update on 22TCM
While I hope to try a 5″ pistol, a bolt action rifle and a semi-auto carbine in that caliber, I do not have them on hand yet. What I have is a 4″ 1911. I brought it to the range … Continue reading

The combat-ready Bantam
Can we compromise with anti-gun activists?
Let’s look at one of the simplest, least powerful guns on the market, a Crickett Hunter. Manually cocked bolt action design dates back to 1820s, nearly two hundred years ago. Rimfire ammunition is uses postdates the action by only twenty … Continue reading

What’s more scary?
A smiling redhead? Or the clip-fed 9mm revolver, the favorite fodder of pulp novel writers of the 1970s, in her hand? Photo for Kangaroo Carry.
Speaking of rimfire ammo shortage
Ten months ago, I compared Keltec PLR22 and Crickett. Now, rimfire ammo availability is improving but everyone has a set view that it’s unavailable…at least for the prices they’d want to pay. That tips the balance towards the omnivorous Crickett … Continue reading
