500S&W revolver with a red dot sight
This handgun has the accuracy and power to take down a deer or goblin past 150 yards. Incidentally, my friend Andy Steinel loads a wide variety of ammunition for this caliber.
Waiting for the predator.
Certain creatures like my friend’s fowl as food. Certain friends prefer those creatures as pelts. Frontier model 22WMR with a 24″ barrel works well for the task.

A rifle for grizzly?
Since a single shot rifle with .22 Long cartridge was enough to drop a record-size grizzly, does this mean thirty rounds of 22WMR would suffice for a whole herd of dinosaurs?

Update on 22TCM
While I hope to try a 5″ pistol, a bolt action rifle and a semi-auto carbine in that caliber, I do not have them on hand yet. What I have is a 4″ 1911. I brought it to the range … Continue reading
Can we compromise with anti-gun activists?
Let’s look at one of the simplest, least powerful guns on the market, a Crickett Hunter. Manually cocked bolt action design dates back to 1820s, nearly two hundred years ago. Rimfire ammunition is uses postdates the action by only twenty … Continue reading

A rifle for Valentine’s Day?
Henry Firearms says: “Consider this American Beauty as a present for your lady.” A pretty good thought, in my opinion. Just make sure to include some ammunition with it. See Henry site for the close-up of the receiver engraving. And … Continue reading
Primary Arms 4-14x FFP scope
A long time ago, I acquired a Primary Arms 4-14x scope with a front focal plane reticle. Recently, a friend in his 70s needed better glass for his .270 TC Venture deer rifle, so it moved onto his gun locker. … Continue reading

Just got back from Pennsylvania
Spent a week with Crickett Rifle company, have many new photos. They also have a very interesting new product in the works to be announced later this year, a logical extension of their expertise in precision manufacturing.

One way to handle switchable barrels.
This 455Lux rifle is in 22WMR. It also accepts a 22LR barrel — with its own sights — and appropriate magazines. Plink with cheaper ammo, bust tree rats with faster 22 Magnum. Don’t have to re-zero.
Pointers on learning snipercraft

Why a CZ527 carbine
The original 7.62×39 M43 round was made for the SKS and later AK47 rifles. Since I have a vz58 compact rifle also chambered for it, why would I want a slower bolt action carbine? For one, it’s a work of … Continue reading
