Please do not use text messaging to communicate anything important to me.

Late this morning, I saw two messages come in (notification and partial text came across the top of the phone) but neither is visible in the text menu on the phone. So I know that somebody tried to reach me but can’t get to the data. The phone (HTC Inspire) doesn’t bubble up fresh messages on top reliably, so unless I chance onto them by accident, I can’t view them.

To reach me reliably, please use email or call.

Friend’s article on AllOutdoor: International Disaster Kit, 3-Day Essentials

My friend Frank just put this up: Food and other essentials for emergencies.

Any idea what this painting by Dean Cornwall shows?

Saw it today in Orlando. Seems to show a Mauser or a 1903 used with round nose bullets, and a pistol with no rear light and hammer down, held by a man who is OK with losing an eye to a recoiling slide. No idea who the background foes are supposed to be.

A great trainer for new shooters

Keltec PF9 with Twisted Industries .22 conversion kit. As you can see, even 22LR produces a considerable amount of muzzle blast. A typical 22LR round holds one grain of powder, while 9mm Luger is closer to six — the difference in report is quite significant to a newbie shooter.

ATF trying to make NFA compliance process even more onerous

This time, by restricting NFA trusts. You can comment on their web site. Here’s an example of a constructive comment written by my IP attorney Glenn Bellamy, aka Armorer at Law.

Rob Allen and Joe Huffman also have sample letters up. Please add your voice to the arguments against this ill-considered (or, more likely, ill-meant) plan by ATF.

85 degrees F in sunny Cocoa, FL today

And I found myself wishing for more clouds for my photo shoot.

Every time I come to Keltec, the most interesting variants of their guns come from the trunks and desk drawers of the employees. This one is no different, coming from a 3-gun shooter. It’s a PLR16 pistol registered as an SBR and fitted with SU16 stock. Very handy little piston gun with a 9.5 inch barrel. Fitted with Vortex Sparc red dot, it’s light and very fast. The flat shape on the shooter’s hip is a slightly customized PMR30.

Procedural smoke, fire and the like

Does anyone know of specialized standalone programs (not plugins for more complex 3D rendering programs) that simulate smoke, fire and other natural effect?

Models needed around Cocoa, FL for this week.

Looking for models age 20-35, men and women, who have at least some familiarity with safe handling of firearms. The projected look would be young professionals who enjoy recreational shooting and appreciate the defensive utility of firearms as well. I did a quick look through modeling directories but didn’t find anyone who struck me as appropriate. So I looking for recommendations and volunteers.

Mountain man?

A friend from Utah who showed me around the state a little. Former Marine, currently a concealed carry instructor, among other things.

Help me find a person.

Today, on my flight from Nashville to Orlando, I sat next to a very interesting gentleman. I was fresh out of business cards. We intended to swap contact info after deplaning, but got separated.

If you know who this person is, please forward my contact info to him. He’s 85, a former psychiatrist. He had heart surgery last year. He’s piloted Cessina 150 and 172 before as a hobby pilot. His father flew a Taylorcraft. Right after the Korean War, he was drafted and spent his military time in Texas as a medical orderly, after which he went to medical school on the GI Bill. He has four kids. He lives in Connecticut most of the time. I think one of his sons lives in Tennessee and another in Florida. One of his grandkids is a helicopter pilot.

Good places to shop with Bitcoin?

I have a small Bitcoin account and would like to put the funds in it to use. What’s a good place to buy electronics or ammunition with it?

How to break plumbing glue?

I am repairing a toilet tank for a friend. Got the replacement parts, but the entire flapper seal assembly seems glued in place. Prying it with a flathead screwdriver didn’t work. Any suggestions on how the glue could be broken down?

Verifying lens calibration

I’d like to verify AF calibration of my lenses with my primary camera body? What’s the nearest place to Nashville where I could get that done? I tried doing it myself but the results were inconclusive.

Connections at camera companies wanted.

In particular, Fuji and Panasonic, though others would be of interest also. I’d like to T&E some of their gear and write it up, but lack the connections to the right people.

Models wanted for Wednesday afternoon in Salt Lake City

I will be doing photos for friend’s brand (Crusader Weaponry), looking for 2-3 people with some firearm proficiency. Basic safety familiarity would be enough, I can coach the rest if needed. The shoot would last about three hours.

Busy, busy…in America and in Russia.

While I have been scrambling, camera in hand, through rocky hills of Austin, TX with my friends from TWS, quite a few of my photos got circulated in Russia at the second RKBA convention.  Many will see yourselves on the posters shown in this video. You’ll also see familiar gun rights faces as well as some strange bedfellows like Zhirinovsky. Never expected to be on the same side!

Quite a few posters in Russian and English were printed and displayed. This video about women’s holsters shows a few of the posters also.
