Uzi loaded with tracers

Wherever he is, John Galt probably prefers a weapon with more range. The Uzi, especially with the solid wooden stock, does work all right to about 100 meters. A little more forward lean would have been nice, but it worked … Continue reading

Good recoil control with M&P Shield

A novice shooter practices with her carry pistol, M&P Shield. My impression of the Shield has been quite positive — it’s accurate, has a good trigger, low felt recoil and muzzle rise, well designed magazines. No malfunctions over about 400 … Continue reading

Extended magazines.

Standard CZ Rami magazine holds 10 9mm cartridges. It’s small, fairly light, has a good trigger and many people like it as a carry weapon. But 10+1 isn’t the limit of its capacity. The solution for getting more ammunition came … Continue reading

Luxury vs. sufficiency

Most full size and compact modern firearms are sufficient for self-defense. I’ve carried a wide variety and, while I have my favorites, wouldn’t feel too poorly armed even with my least favorite weapon. However, the line is much closer when … Continue reading

Functional texturing

Very aggressive texturing on the rubber grip works pretty well for retention and doesn’t dig into the hand. Stippling on top of the slide reduces glare when in ready position.

Better than milspec

The common complaint with Army issue guns is that they are made by the lowest bidder. South Korean K5 (P51 in the commercial dress) is no exception. Back when Korean Daewoo P51 pistols became available in the US, I didn’t … Continue reading

Guns aren’t the solution…except when they are.

Opponents of firearms for effective self-defense tell others to run away from danger, to learn martial arts, or to “give the bad guy what he wants”. Not everyone can follow that advice…in fact, almost no one can. Least of all, … Continue reading

SSG69 PIV, police variant

This illustrates the utility of short, handy PIV variant. With the scope set at 3.5x, off-hand snapshots are possible. That would be rather harder with the longer bull barrels typical of longer military sniper rifles. At typical police sniper ranges under … Continue reading

Pretty is as pretty does

When I first saw this holster, I wondered why anyone would make a pretty holster for a completely utilitarian Glock. Then I got to shoot a new Gen.4 G19 at the range and the accuracy was enough to remind me. Reliable, … Continue reading
