Less expensive shooting practice
Range time consists of three major expenses: range fees, travel time and ammunition. I shoot on friends’ farms, so the fees aren’t an issue. Ammunition, that I have. I’ve been a packrat a long time, and I no longer do … Continue reading

You can always tell an AR15 shooter…
…by how high they place the heel of the stock. .223 Ruger M77 left-hand with 3-9x Trijicon Accupoint. I had a chance to shoot this combination yesterday at 150 yards with only a small branch for support: it worked great. … Continue reading

The smallest dragoon
“Dragoons ride to the scene of the battle, then fight dismounted.”
Just got back from Pennsylvania
Spent a week with Crickett Rifle company, have many new photos. They also have a very interesting new product in the works to be announced later this year, a logical extension of their expertise in precision manufacturing.

One way to handle switchable barrels.
This 455Lux rifle is in 22WMR. It also accepts a 22LR barrel — with its own sights — and appropriate magazines. Plink with cheaper ammo, bust tree rats with faster 22 Magnum. Don’t have to re-zero.
Pointers on learning snipercraft
Sniping is a lot more than just shooting straight. Read a few suggestions for the direction of study for being a sniper. In addition to my post, read this excellent blog about long-range shooting.
More photos from my Austin visit with TWS
Some sort of a Marlin .22 bolt action. AK74 with TWS forend and rail.
Why a CZ527 carbine
The original 7.62×39 M43 round was made for the SKS and later AK47 rifles. Since I have a vz58 compact rifle also chambered for it, why would I want a slower bolt action carbine? For one, it’s a work of … Continue reading
1891/30 Mosin rifle
For some reason, this photo brings the images of Spanish civil war to mind. This rifle is a 122 year old design, updated in a minor way 84 years ago. This weapon and other arms like it still scare the … Continue reading
Mauser derivative
This design is a 1940s variation of an 1890s design. Nothing like the scary semi-auto rifles that the US prohibitionists fear. And yet, can you imagine them being OK with you or I having this rifle without interference? Their end-game … Continue reading

Grace (noun)
For this little girl, Grace is both the name and the descriptive adjective. At 13, she evidences adult social graces and capabilities. Her parents can be quite proud of her. And the results: Toys: GSG 1911-22 with AAC Pilot suppressor, … Continue reading

Sharp-eyed little girl with a long reach.
Left-hand Ruger 77 in 223Rem under a 3-9x Accupoint. Hannah, age 12, was doing 150 yard head shots on a silhouette target with basic 55gr ball ammunition. When the zombies come, I am hiding behind her.
Restored heirloom
My friend got this gun when he was 7 years old. By the time I saw it, the old bolt action 410 was rusty, nasty and had severely damaged wood with little finish left on it. Then Buck Williams from … Continue reading
Photographer Matt at the range
Camera, rifle, good company — enough for a contented smile. When darkness falls and the Morlocks come out, he will be ready…if I remember the spare batteries.
An actual girly rifle
My friend Kyle is holding a girly bolt action rifle. I think it’s in .280Rem (could be 308Win, I can’t recall). The point is, this rifle belongs to a girl. No pink furniture or Hello Kitty accents. So sorry to … Continue reading
