Dragon Leatherworks
Say Uncle turned me on to this great holster maker. The holster below has been in heavy use for months, but it still looks like new.
And this one is new…looks perfect for Tea Parties.
Large-caliber fun in Virginia
The forward-balanced firing position is necessary to counteract the formidable recoil of the weapon. This example was accurate enough for consistent 50m hits on a metal silhouette but penetration on 1/2″ thick steel was lacking. Might have to try teflon-coated bullits next time.
Fitting the rifle to the user
With firearms, same as with shoes, it really helps if the fit is personalized. This little carbine made by Doublestar uses an Ace stock with short length of pull and a very light barrel to make it easier for a smaller shooter to handle. Neoprene buffer tube cover and larger “winter” trigger guard make it more comfortable in cold weather. Ventilated rail and vertical grip help when the thin barrel heats up. Backup sight folds flat to allow easy red dot use. Fixed front sight and fixed rather than collapsible stock were picked for strength.
The sight is Primary Arms micro red dot with “killflash”. She’s also carrying a “Gun Blog 45” Para Ordnance LDA in a Bladetech paddle holster.
“The shoulder thingie that goes up”
I always wanted this carbine but finding spare magazines was a pain. Now that Black Dog Machine makes 30-round stick and 50-round drum magazines, I couldn’t resist. With three 50s and five 30s, I can literally “load on Sunday and shoot all week.”
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Series problem
My laptop video drive isn’t working. Attempts to re-install it failed, seems that the package provided by the manufacturer is somehow defective. Built-in video driver yields a dark screen with inaccurate tones. Any ideas on where I could get an older driver or some other solution to this?
Classic Uzi
Janine is firing tracers from it…she giggled like a little girl. Few things bring a bigger smile than swarms of angry little fireflies launched at steel targets at a safe distance.
Keeping powder dry
As expected, firing flintlocks in a drizzle isn’t a very productive activity. Many misfires.
Last year’s visit to Boston also reminded me that Massachusetts’ gun laws have become significantly more oppressive since 1775. The much-maligned British Crown cared less about the colonials’ carry of pistols or muskets than the current state government cares about denying its subjects the ability to protect themselves.
Video card performance input needed
How would http://www.gpureview.com/Radeon-HD-5450-card-625.html compare to Intel HD built-in graphics delivered by the processor CoreĀ i3-560?

JP muzzle brake
It is loud but it is effective. This guy was firing rapidly while in complete control of the recoil. Not surprising, considering JP founder and his sons shoot 3-gun matches.
Pro-production RMR30 22 Magnum carbine
The shooter is 13 year old Brookie.
First impressions: very accurate, no recoil, light. Stock needs intermediate positions (which it will on the production version). Red dot really helps quick aiming, but iron sights are pretty good and fold out of the way when used with an optic.

David
Finally got to meet the famous photographer David Simerly. I look forward to learning what I can during my stay here in West Virginia.
Another custom pen by Brian
A couple of weeks ago, Brian Evichin gave me a hand-made pen. I finally had the time to post photos of it.
The cap is magnetic and snaps on to either end of the pen. It’s truly a gift fit for a friend and has been duly forwarded to someone deserving.
If you want one of your own, checkout code “olegvolk11” gets you 10% off. Brian also makes pens out of rifle catridges.
Fun guns
SAR21 bullpup rifle with integral laser (Singapore). Built-in 2x scope. Very nice ergonomics, including ambidextrous charging handle. Semi/auto switch is a cross-bolt in the stock.
9mm AR is good for practicing at pistol-only firing ranges.
Laptop problem — any ideas?
When I got my laptop about 15 months ago, a couple of times it blanked the screen to gray, requiring a reboots. That problem them ceased.
Today, I had the same happen twice, followed by three more crashes with screen turning vertical pattern of alternating white and red or black and red lines. No rhyme or reason as to when it happens. Any ideas on what could be causing that?
Visiting with Double Star/J&T
In the past two days, I filled a 16GB card with photos of DS products in studio and on the range. Here’s the first sample:
Nightforce 3.5-15x scope, Armatac 150rd CL drum, Double Star back sights and Harris bipod.
