Another Sideguard holster
I like Eric’s work: it’s durable, looks good and doesn’t cost too much.
And, personally, I also like looking at Danica.
More about .22 conversion for PF9
As you can see, each magazine tube is made of billet aluminum. They won’t wear out in normal use.
Women in Computing
Traditional “affirmative action” proved fairly ineffective in increasing the number of women who built a successful career in IT. A close friend suddenly found himself in position to influence efforts in this area by a Fortune 50 IT company. The company’s declared goal is to make IT careers more attractive to women, starting at K-12 level. He asked me for suggestions on how to proceed without create additional discrimination against boys in the process. Any advice?
Tough basic tools
A good set of tools for a leisurely walk out in the woods. The ax/walking stick was made by my friend Nick. He left the finish rough deliberately.
Canon EOS 50/1.4 lens for sale or trade for 85/1.8
I’d like to sell my 50/1.4 ($360 delivered within US) or trade it for 85/1.8. I find that I prefer to use 45 TSE or 50 macro for almost everything, while my 100/2.8 macro or 90TSE don’t quite work for low-light portrait work. My “mental eye” sees in 85-90mm angle of view anyway.
Getting sufficient practice with Kel-tec PF9
This Kel-tec PF9 is set up for inexpensive practice. CTC laser allows better dry fire practice by providing visual feedback to trigger control exercise. This way, if you don’t have time to get to the range, some practice can be obtained.
The .22 conversion kit from Twisted Industries is a very high quality design allowing high round count practice with less hand fatigue. It also cuts down the cost of such practice by 2/3. I prefer using high quality .22 ammunition instead of bulk, but even premium .22 cost less than budget grade 9mm.
I will post more photos of this kit soon to shown billet machined (!) magazines and other features. This conversion kit makes PF9 into a light and comfortable kit gun.

Publishing names of carry permit holders
Say Uncle reports that yet another newspaper publishes names of permit holders. While potentially harmful to people on the list, it’s more harmful to people not on the list. A stalker can now check on his victim’s probable lack of defensive ability.
The coming Federal ban on candles
As far as I know, there isn’t one in the works yet. However, there is a ban on incandescent bulbs to take effect by 2014. I suspect the reason why no one is trying to ban candles, oil lamps or gas lights is that they aren’t very widely used and so legislative prohibition is not needed. Incandescent lamps are popular and so a legal prohibition would be necessary to make them go away.
This isn’t just a matter of gross inefficiency and messing with the free market in light bulbs. It’s yet another example of arbitrary imposition by mostly unaccountable people in government and regulatory agencies. This approach is as un-American in spirit as it is traditional in practice — this kind of imposition has been around since 19th century at least and probably longer. Might be a good time to do something about it.
Semi-auto .303 Bren made by Len Savage
This is a semi-automatic closed bolt rifle made by Len Savage on the basis of a Bren light machine gun. Because of the rigid receiver and heavy barrel, this weapon makes up for the lack of automatic fire with good semi-auto sustained capability and 1MOA accuracy with good ammo. The lady who owns it says that it has almost no felt recoil.
If you want a Bren (or a similar gun) of your own, talk to Len Savage:
