Liberty Training Rifle
The long-awaited Marlin 795LTR is finally in production and will be available shortly. The concept of Liberty Training Rifle is best explained on the Appleseed site. The rifle comes with two magazines, a canvas sling and adjustable Tech Sights. I … Continue reading
Serbu 50BMG rifle
For an upcoming magazine article.
Hit the gym!
Besides the obvious health benefits, more muscle means you can operate heavier toys. This DSA FAL is hefty — a heavy barrel, a 100rd Beta drum and a 2.5-10x optic do add up — but also capable of keeping up … Continue reading
After a string of fire.
Suppressed SU22 is light enough and quiet enough for a comfortable social outing in the woods of Tennessee. Everyone shot suppressed that day, so the ear plugs aren’t in evidence.

If you like folding stocks on AR15s, here’s another upper option
Since their web site is still in development, I’ll post the two sides of their SHOT show handout. These should start shipping by Spring. You can see their Facebook page for now.
Where flat-shooting pistols really shine
Coonan .357 and other flat shooting handguns really shine in the desert. They weigh less than rifles yet cover a decent range for defense. Towards the South of our country, that may be a serious consideration. A pistol in 10mm … Continue reading
Match accuracy in a plastic rifle?
Last year, I shot a Chiappa 15-22 at an indoor range with a 1-4x scope. At 25 yards, the bullets consistently clover-leafed. I absolutely did not expect that result from a lightweight upper on a plastic lower, especially since I … Continue reading
The transparent shotgun
Of the guns I shot at SHOT show Media Day, the competition version of MKA1919 impressed me the most. It was the most transparent clay-busting device ever — I hit 9 of 9 with it though I am a lousy … Continue reading
Crusader Weaponry .308 rifle
The opener shot for the upcoming article about this impressive rifle. The sight is Elcan Specter 1/4x. Battlecomp brake, Magpul stock and mag, Diamondhead sights.
Faxon uppers — a better mousetrap.
At the recent industry shoot, I had a chance to try new Faxon AR uppers. The design is an AK-style long-stroke piston with a FAL-type gas regulator. It allows effective suppressed use without any gas blowback at the shooter. Little … Continue reading

Leader 50 finally enters productions.
Last week, I went to Micor Defense in Decatur, AL with Charles St.George and other colleagues. We test-fired the updated Leader 50 and looked at the first parts produced for the initial batch of rifles. We chronographed the gun, tried … Continue reading
A dreaded assault pistol (by California law)
This 1910 Bergmann, a 6-shot 9mm pistol, is ruled a banned assault weapon by California regulations. Semi-automatic with magazine outside the grip is evil incarnate in the eyes of their lawmakers. That’s a pretty crazy, but then what isn’t about … Continue reading
Steyr C9-A1
Way back in 2002 or so, I tried a Steyr M9. I liked the trigger, the thin comfortable grip and the lack of recoil, wasn’t sure about the sights and really did not care for the safety lever placement. Ten … Continue reading
Keltec SU16C
Unconventional but functional. 10 more images
Danica smiles. Again.
Homebuilt FAL on a Coonan receiver, Magpul PRS2 stock, Burris 1.5-6×40 scope.

Good weather makes range time that much better.
Rimfire STG44. Cutts compensator doing its job well. Mike, obviously compensating for something. (Photo by Mike Branson) Full report on Savage mkII-SR, JRC 9mm, STG44, Henry .22 and others coming a little later.
The best 1927 Thompson movie scene
Miller’s Crossing has one of the best choreographed Thompson submachine gun scenes. I just have still photos of the 1927-A1 semi-auto carbine with a 100-round “pizza platter” drum. “Flash mob coming, you say? I should have enough for everybody.”

Another 12GA shortie
Also seen at Coal Creek Armory, a Saiga 12 with 8″ barrel and 12-shot magazine.
