An excellent range day

For once, I went to the range without a camera. With several guns to fire in a limited time and poor lighting available, I concentrated on having fun. We set up at 25 yards and played for a while. One … Continue reading

Keltec SU16 in use

As I’ve mentioned before, SU16 is one of my favorite light rifles. It’s a clean-running, lightweight piston gun with good accuracy. It’s very simple, has mild recoil and can be customized extensively. SU16 works well suppressed. It’s main down side … Continue reading

OK, maybe this wouldn’t stop a riot…

…but it would certainly end one fast! STG58 with Cyclone muffler for hearing protection and 100rd Beta magazine for lead sufficiency. Ear muffs have built-in radio jack and stereo microphones that improve on un-amplified hearing, wearing eye protection is just … Continue reading

NRA Show in St.Louis 2012 re-cap

The show was much smaller and much better organized than SHOT. 90% of the useful info in 20% of the space. Media support was stellar. Got to meet fellow bloggers, see my images used in about a dozen booths and … Continue reading

Tricking out an AK

My friend’s Bulgarian AK clone with Insight MRDS on Ultimak rail, Ace M4 SOCOM stock. It remains streamlined and AK-simple, but the speed of target acquisition and recoil control improved. The changes added very little weight.

Don’t end up like Reginald Denny.

SU16D12 The rail was designed by a Kel-tec employee and is one of several made for evaluation. The carbine can be fired with one hand if necessary and runs great with the 60-round Surefire magazine. I’d probably prefer a lighter … Continue reading

Left-handed newbies

Last thing a new shooter needs is an additional handicap of a right-handed rifle. Crickett The same carbine works as an oversized pistol for right-handed adults. It’s good for a quarter-sized group at 25 yards.

Dragon Leather holsters ride again

Dennis made an awesome custom holster for my friend Dot. Another friend’s 14-year-old daughter is wearing it in the photo. As you can see, a small framed teenager can be comfortable with both a PMR30 on the hip and an … Continue reading

RFB length

To me, the support hand placement on the 18″ variant illustrates that the version with a 24″ barrel wouldn’t be too long. The long quad forend would allow greater iron sight radius for backup, as well as a tandem placement … Continue reading

Keltec RFB at the range

Jim Gilliland test-fired this RFB with 168 grain Setpoint ballistic tips and 175 grain Georgia Arms match ammunition. With 4x scope, he got roughly 1.5MOA. Last year, Mike Meador shot it with Federal Gold Match using a much higher-magnification scope … Continue reading
